Weekend Getaway in the White Mountains!

Dave was in charge of this past weekend -- after all the travels we have done together, this was to be our first weekend alone. We had a blast!!! We left from Dave's home in Newfields, NH and drove up the highway to the Kancamagus Highway -- making several stops along the way, including The Lower Falls, which is the same place that Mike C. (of the L.I. Ravens) and I stopped at last year for a dip on the water! On the Kancamagus Highway. Lower Falls is 7 miles west of Conway. Lower Falls is right on the Kancamagus, and is a busy spot on hot summer days. It has pools, small sandy beaches, picnic tables, parking and changing rooms. Following several nature stops & walks, we checked into our hotel in North Lincoln and drove up to Chutter's in Littleton, NH -- home of the world's longest candy counter! See my photo with "gummy false teeth" in on the left here. After Chutter's, we stopped up the street at a couple's home who collected gasoline pumps -- there were about two dozen in his large front yard. (See photo on the right.) Afterwards, we went to Fratello's Ristorante Italiano in downtown Lincoln for dinner (yum!)

Of course, Dave had to make me pose for this humourous photo on the left!! Note: the dog is laughing at my groin region! We continued to see the sights in the White Mountains, including "the Basin" and a gondola ride up Wildcat Mountain! Although cloudy, it was quite fun!

We made a quick stop in Conway on the way home and then had dinner at China Buffet in Durham, NH; which to my surprise was a 4 1/2 star rated restaurant (but then again, you're in Durham, NH!!) Although the restaurant lacked any form of tasteful ambiance, the human scenery was lovely!!

Our basic route is below:

This Friday thru Monday, I will be in Denver/Boulder, CO on work... I am planning on stopping out at Denver Wrangler on Sunday, 21-Aug at 6pm. As always, my phone will be on!

With all this travel, as well as workload, I find myself quite behind in my e-mail -- I'm trying to keep up, but with all the stuff going on, don't be surprised if you don't get a personal reply until AFTER 19-SEPTEMBER when I return from the United Kingdom.
