Oh Joy! Test Results -- I'm Positive.

Well, the labs came back today, and sure enough, I tested positive for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. This is the staph infection that has been making its way around the Massachusetts area, especially in health clubs and gyms.

So I'm home for the rest of the week to get this bug out of my system...

Re: Awww Darlin!

I sleep oddly due to the throbbing pain and the pain meds.

Hopefully, this will be all better in a few more days...

Thanks for caring!

They have taken me off the Keflex (antibiotic), as it will have NO EFFECT on the MRSA, and put me on Bactrim (a sulfa drug.)

They tested the culture they took from my back on Thursday and determined this is the best corse of action. They know that this will work just fine, and I will be okay.

I am still taking Roxicet/325mg for the pain. (Believe me, I am not a wimp when it comes to pain!! [I think you know that, actually!] So if I'm popping a pill every 6 hours, you know that it HURTS!)

Very true!!! In 9 more days, it should be irradicated from my system.

I'd be interested in seeing that article from the image you posted - is it online?

Hope that you feel better Chaz!
I packed my brothers Gastric Bypass opening for months and he too had an MRSA. The little thing that nobody tells you is to make sure that you wash everything in hot water and use a dryer to kill off the MRSA on bedsheets, clothing, etc... Always be sure to wash your hands well with Antibacterial Soap and scrub them hard. Community based MRSA is the worst but luckily, they caught it at time of removal and started a drug that is not resistant to it. Get as much rest as possible take those antibiotics and I am sure that you will feel better. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Hope that you feel better Chaz!
You are the FIRST person to mention that!!! And although it shouldn't spread on clothing easily, it makes COMPLETE SENSE!

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

I am washing EVERYTHING now in hot water! Better SAFE than sorry.

I will pass this information on to my healthcare providers so they can relay it to other people with this. It's apparently running rampant in Massachusetts!!

From my Doctor... THANKS AGAIN!!

Charles,

MRSA (and indeed all Staph) can live on surfaces, so it makes sense -- by all means wash sheets, towels, clothing, etc. Antibacterial soaps are helpful; Purel or similar is even better.

Unfortunately, there is a lot about control of MRSA that is NOT known, in particular why some people only get one episode, others multiple, etc.
