Trans-Canada, Day 15

I arrived in Vancouver this morning -- so far I've made it from New York's Penn Station to Vancouver using trains only, stopping in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Winnipeg! I've been faithfully uploading photos from the trip (as I go) to photos.chazhome.com.

After just under 48 hours on the train, it was nice to get out and walk around -- and walk I did! I've already been to Vancouver's Chinatown, Downtown, Gay Village (Davies St) and the Telus World of Science (which was sadly geared solely for children with ADD that like to press big shiny buttons.)

Tonight, I'll be eating at the only Nando's (that I know of) in North America (watch out Ottawa, you're getting one soon!) and then heading up the street to the Pumpjack Bar for a few cocktails and to socialize with the locals.

I remain in Vancouver until Friday evening when I depart at 17:45 on an Amtrak train, heading for Seattle, Washington. K.K. will be meeting me there and we'll have a few days before returning to New York City, thus closing the books on this whirlwind tour.

Vancouver
Do you have any recommendations?

I have all day tomorrow to sight-see.

Re: Vancouver
Jump on Sea Bus and check out Lonsdale Quay. If you can take a ride up to Whistler, it's about 2 hours, I think, to get there.

Food, for sure. :) Check out Simon Fraser University - the view from up there is fantastic, especially from Burnaby Mountain Park.

Re: Vancouver

You know that Vancouver is in the midst of a freak cold-snap, Victoria was practically shut down yesterday.

Considering the weather is unusually cold -- do you still recommend this course of action?

Re: Vancouver

I took your advice and checked out Lonsdale Quay, but I didn't venture much further in to North Vancouver.

I took the Canada Line to the casino and gambled a little (hey, it's indoors!)

It's chilly out, but no snow on the ground.

Re: Vancouver
Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner. Glad you had a chance to get to Lonsdale - there isn't much else in North Van.

Re: Vancouver

No worries... I had a great day out.

Tomorrow is my last day here -- I board my last train, completing the loop from New York, NY to Seattle, WA via Canada all on trains.

A story to tell my grandkids. Oh, wait. I don't reproduce. Nevermind.
