Keep Walking

Empire City Toys for Tots #44

Dave and I headed to New York for Empire City Motorcycle Club's 44th annual Toys for Tots. I have been going to this worthy event for almost twenty years, this year was Dave's third.

Before going to the event, we spend Saturday cruising all over New York City. Some highlights of our travels included: Lunch at SuperMac (348 7th Ave), a gourmet macaroni and cheese restaurant near Madison Square Garden. In the photo on the left, Dave enjoys his dish of "B & G", a macaroni and cheese dish made with whole grain macaroni applewood smoked bacon, mozzarella and gorgongola cheeses. Yum! I had the french onion version. See their menu for details!

Down to Union Square, we popped into Max Brenner Chocolate at 841 Broadway for a "hug mug" of hot cocoa. Sadly, the line was far too long for us to enjoy one! We were told to come back on Sunday when they opened at 8:00 AM. When we did go back the following day, we were told that service did not start until 9:00 AM and the employees were unapologitic and downright quite rude about their error. Perhaps I'll go back there when they're not so busy -- but honestly, I was pretty upset about how they handled the situation.

Out next stop was The Doughnut Plant (379 Grand St) -- the Doughnut Plant was featured on Mastercard's -- YUM! Amazing, flavourful doughnuts! Neither Dave nor I are huge doughnut fans, but you can't say no to these delctiable bits of pastry heaven!

We left with three doughnuts each, and went back for a few more the next day, stopping next door at a kosher bakery to pick up some real New York bagels to go!

We then headed a few blocks north to Economy Candy (also featured on Mastercard's, where you could get all sorts of rare and hard to find candies! With our shopping bags of 'healthy' doughnuts and candy in hand, we went to Soho to see the WIRED! Store to check out all the cool gagets you read about in WIRED! magazine! The WIRED! Store is a seasonal store and is fun to visit, but bring your chequebook! They're not cheap!

We took a shower and a quick lie-down before heading to Empire City Motorcycle Club's 44th annual Toys for Tots at Primitivo (202 West 14th St) -- sadly, the venue was smaller than prior years, restricting the event to 80 guests; however that didn't stop folks from having a great time and gathering tons of toys and cash for Leake & Watts Specialized Foster Care!
