Keep Walking

Boston Bears Turns One Year Old!

This weekend we celebrated the 1st anniversary of the Boston Bears, although the actual date is March 31st. From Friday's happy-hour at the Alley, to "reel bears" (bears at the movies) on Friday evening for a viewing of Starsky & Hutch (good movie, BTW), to our monthly barnight, which was VERY busy and finally bears at the baths in Providence! A lot of folks came to our events for the first time ever!

It was a busy weekend!! I work three days this week, before leaving for New York City on Thursday for Night of a Thousand Gowns, the largest fund-raisers put on by the Imperial Court of New York City. This year, AmFAR will be the beneficiary.

It will be a busy weekend for sure -- lots to see and do...

Now here's something for you to do...

It is true —one doesn't often hear about someone dying of AIDS anymore. Hard won advances in treatment for HIV mean people who learn they are positive are living longer, healthier lives.

However, living with HIV is no picnic and the medications that help control it are expensive, often have serious side effects and don't work for everyone. New HIV infections continue at the rate of 2 to 4 every day in Massachusetts, and HIV diagnoses among young people 13 to 24 years old are on the rise, now accounting for nearly 10 percent of new infections in Massachusetts.

Women of color, gay and bisexual men and people over 50 are also seeing rising infections. A full array of services is needed both to care for those who are living with HIV and to prevent new infections in those who are at risk.

Join Us!! The Mass Red Ribbon Ride is made possible by the efforts of many amazing people, like you. Without scores of volunteers and crew members, there would be no Ride. Please consider helping us make the first collaborative ride across Massachusetts a success.

Volunteer before the Ride: Help us to recruit riders at events; assist in the Ride office; serve as a mentor to registered riders; work with bike shops and clubs; assure that posters and info stands are in community locations; lead training rides; and more….

Crew on the Ride: Join us on the route during the weekend of the Ride, assisting with rider support, bike repairs and logistics - we provide housing and meals - you provide the backbone for the Ride!
