What is Space: 1999? -- Simply put, "Space: 1999" is a British-made first-run syndicated TV series of the mid-1970s. the show deals with a colony of moonbase inhabitants and their adventures after the moon has been blasted out of Earth orbit.

It was the first attempt since the demise of Star Trek in 1969 at producing a large-scale weekly science fiction series, and the show drew a great deal of visual inspiration (and technical expertise) from the Stanley Kubrick classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. The show's special effects director Brian Johnson had in fact previously worked on both Thunderbirds (as Brian Johncock) and 2001.

You mean that lovely show with the then divorced Barbara Bain and Martin Landou?? How the explosion at the nuclear waste dump sent them on their journey??? The strange couple of people the pictured up along the way?? With actor Barry Morris?? And a couple of hot hung men always flying into danger with the dramatic music just before the crash scene?
Never saw it before..........lol. Bullshit, never missed a show was more like it.

ROFL! You know it well, eh?

From the get-to, Sylvia Anderson (producer) had strong objections to the hiring of the AMERICAN actors Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, but they were cast at the insistence of Lew Grade (ITC Entertainment's president) in an effort to appeal to the huge US television market.

Speaking of divorce... Did you know that the married producer and executive producer of Space: 1999, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson also divorced just before season two of Space: 1999. Sylvia Anderson left the show and divorced Gerry, causing a dramatic shift in the production quality -- witch could be seen by anyone watching the show!

Fred Freiberger was brought in to replace Sylvia and guide the series as producer. Freiberger was infamous for producing the critically-derided third season of Star Trek, and later seasons of The Six Million Dollar Man.

I was a huge fan of the show when it was new... I always watched it as a child, I played Space: 1999 with friends. I had the toys and all... For a show that actually had TOYS from Mattel, I'm still amazed that it only lasted two years.

I'm still shocked that the SciFi /Space channel never picked it up!
